Melchizedek is Shem (son of Noah) and he is also the prototype of the Savior. See Hebrews Ch 7 (click link for more info) – and check out the JST on that. It is a little clunky and confusing if you rely only on the KJV.
Just had a friend from Cardston send a link to this article – as well as many confirming comments on the previous article on the Indianapolis Temple. It nails down the connection in our temples (including Indianapolis) to that of Melchizedek. The lady who asked a GA (Seventy, I think) who said it was just a nice decoration in the Indianapolis Temple terrestrial endowment room, was simply wrong on the matter.
Me-thinks someone was trying to reinforce the idea of higher nature of what goes on in that room……
