Performing and Measuring Miracles
The reason I believe Jesus could do all things was because He perfectly loved all. He loved and loves the individual to the level of taking upon Himself all of their pains and sufferings (Alma 7:11). This I also believe is the secret to all miracles.
The love must match the miracle.
We can do miracles in His name. If we learn to love how He loves.
When we desire to heal, help or bless someone we acknowledge that Christ already can if He wanted to because… He loves that person enough He already took their suffering upon Himself.
The question and lesson He wants us to learn now is… have we obtained that unconditional level of love for “our loved one”? Do we love them enough to plead with Him to let part of “their cup” pass to us?
Do we love them enough that if He wills it, that their suffering pass to us completely? That we would be willing to “pay tribute” so to speak, in their place?
If so then we may be allowed to heal them or work the miracle if it is His according to His spirit.
Brothers and sisters the suffering of our loved ones is only partially for our loved ones. The other part (perhaps greater part) is for us. We must, we must, we must, come to terms with God and dig deep enough into our own heart and find the love for them that equals and goes beyond their suffering.
If it doesn’t then we have something to work and pray for and when achieved we can then worthily come before the Lord and plead to the Lord to take the cup from them, acknowledging that we know He already could, and now, acknowledging to Him that we are ready to join Him in His suffering on their behalf. For His and the afflicted’s sake.
Sisters and brothers, this is the gospel of Jesus Christ, this is true love, Charity and sacrifice. This is how all miracles occur. Does our faith in Christ match our love for Him and for them?
Is our love equivalent to the “sacrifice” that must be placed on “the alter” in order for the healing or miracle to take place?
If so that may be all that is required. Other times we may be greatly blessed to suffer for His sake and their’s, stretching us even more so and increasing our ability to love Him and them.
To suffer for another in God’s name is the path that follows behind “the Good Shepherd”.
If we love all unconditionally as He does then in His name we will be able to do all things because we acknowledge “He first loved us” and now “secondly we love Him and thirdly… we love them similarly to how He already loves them and us”.
Now, as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light;
Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—
Now I say unto you, if this be the desire of your hearts, what have you against being baptized in the name of the Lord, as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him, that ye will serve him and keep his commandments, that he may pour out his Spirit more abundantly upon you? (Mosiah 18:8-10)
