Achieving Zion
This is essentially some of my favorite quotes and insights from Chapter 1: Understanding Zion of “The Triumph of Zion” by John Pontius that I wanted to share. In summary though, It’s possible! We just need to align our belief (in ourselves) with our faith in Christ!
“When the truths of Zion are instilled into a soul by the Holy Spirit of God, what is gained is a truth so astonishing that it changes souls. The truth whereof we speak is twofold: First, it is the astonishing facts of what Zion actually is. Second, it is the sure knowledge that we –you and I–can obtain a place within it without waiting for an actual city to be built in Missouri.”
“One cannot discover what Zion actually is without yearning to be a part of it… Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1 Corinthians 2:9)”
“Much more than a place, a city, or a society, Zion is a state of being. To be a part of a perfected Zion society in any dispensation, we have to become a Zion individual… We are speaking of the powers of godliness, power that transcends life and death, power over personal injury, immunity to disease and sickness, and to literally have power over our own death.”
“The blinding truth before us is that Zion is not beyond our reach. God does not task us with impossible assignments. Zion is a state that has been obtained in the past, and will be obtained again in this dispensation, possibly by hundreds of thousands prior to the Lord’s return. The question before us is only whether we–you and I–are willing to pay the price to be a part of it.”
“Everything we need, every doctrine, every priesthood ordinance, every truth and power and principle that is required of a mortal to personally qualify for and enter Zion exists today within the latter-day Church. Nothing is missing. Nothing remains to be revealed. No statement or proclamation of the living prophets needs to be made. It is all present, now… We must obtain an inspired belief that it is ours to claim and then be willing to pay the price to do so.”
Moses 7:62 And righteousness will I send down out of heaven; and truth will I send forth out of the earth, to bear testimony of mine Only Begotten; his resurrection from the dead; yea, and also the resurrection of all men; and righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare, an Holy City, that my people may gird up their loins, and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem.
In order to be a part of Zion we must be be like Abraham and seek the Lord with all our heart and mind, for after finding Him Abraham said in his heart, “Thy servant has sought thee earnestly; now I have found thee;”. “This was the very search for which they (we) were put on earth: to rend the veil of unbelief, to yield to the pull of the Savior’s sealing power, to stand in the Lord’s presence, encircled about in the arms of His love (D&C 6:20 …Be faithful and diligent in keeping the commandments of God, and I will encircle thee in the arms of my love. ; 2 Nephi 1:15 …the Lord hath redeemed my soul from hell; I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love.).
This then is (the point of) the temple endowment: (we) having been cast out, to search diligently according to the revealed path (personal revelation, aka by the Light of Christ, the Holy Ghost, etc), and at last to be clasped in the arms of Jesus (Mormon 5:11 …such will sorrow for the calamity of the house of Israel; yea, they will sorrow for the destruction of this people; they will sorrow that this people had not repented that they might have been clasped in the arms of Jesus. ).”
