In his closing remarks for the April 2019 General Conference, President Nelson stated:
“As you study (the conference messages), seek to learn what the Lord is trying to teach you through His servants.”
In this vein, and to hopefully enrich your personal study, we have developed discussion questions for the April 2019 General Conference Addresses. These are for the Priesthood Session.
Our discussion questions for the Sunday morning session can be found here, and for Sunday afternoon, here. Our discussion questions for Saturday morning and afternoon sessions can be found here. Priesthood Session
Elder Gary E. Stevenson, “Your Priesthood Playbook“

• Why might Elder Stevenson have used athletes and playbooks as metaphors in these talks? What might athletics be uniquely able to teach us about the gospel?
• Why is it important to know “the play” if you are confronted with temptation? What virtue is there in having automatic choices for certain areas? How can that be a strength?
• Why would a member of the 12 have considered “Bless[ing] Heavenly Father’s children through service” an essential part of our playbook? Is there a way that such service might refine spiritually but also strengthen against temptation?
• How is being a Child of God a “higher and holier identity” than other identities, even professional prestige? Why is this our most important identity?
• Why do you think the Lord specifically says He will use “the weak things of the world”? Elder Carl B. Cook, “The Quorum: A Place of Belonging”

• Given that we have wards, why did the Lord specifically give us priesthood quorums? (This same question also applies to the Relief Society)
• How do we use “priesthood power [to] build a strong quorum”? What does that look like, practically, in our day-to-day life? How is the priesthood involved?
• How can we ensure that “no one…be left behind” in regards to home-centered learning of the gospel? •
Elder Kim B. Clark, “Look unto Jesus Christ“

• Why might more responsibility for missionary work and other essential Church missions being placed “squarely on the shoulders of the elders of Israel”?
• How might we more effectively work with the Relief Society in our collective (as well as our unique) missions? What does this look like?
• How do we “look unto [Christ] in every thought”? How do we do that in a world where we are constantly distracted/entertained/busy/learning?
• How can we increase our desire and ability to “yield our hearts to [Christ]”? Why is this necessary? • How can we better see people as Jesus sees them? Why is this so critical? President Henry B. Eyring, “The Power of Sustaining Faith”

• How is allowing/inviting someone to baptize you, bless you, or otherwise perform an ordinance on your behalf an act of sustaining?
• Why is sustaining such an emphasized concept in the Church? What is the spiritual role of sustaining? How does it relate to saving faith and repentance? • What are examples of powerful sustaining in the scriptures? • How is sustaining a “promise with God”? What does that look like practically?
• How is sustaining each other related to building “the Zion the Lord wants us to create”? President Dallin H. Oaks, “Where Will This Lead?”

• How can we remember to think towards the future, especially if we have dramatic, stressful situations in the present that seem to press more immediately occupy our thoughts?
• Why did the crowd not stop the dog? How does this apply to us? Does our inaction ever stop us from coming to the aid of the vulnerable? How can we do better?
• Why is being a child of God such a pre-eminent and foundational identity for us? •
President Russel M. Nelson, “We Can Do Better and Be Better“

• Why is repentance a healing, rather than a penalty? Why do we sometimes think otherwise?
• How do we keep a “regular, daily focus on repentance?” Does this mean we repent of the same things over and over? Is it more progressive and cumulative? What does this look like for you? • Why does “purity bring power”? What kind of power?
• How can you better honor the women in your lives?
• (For men) How can we repent if we have not properly paid attention to, listened to, or otherwise “make it easy” for our wives?
• What is your “spiritual slumber”, how do we wake up from it, and why is it crucial? Thanks for Reading!
