Servant versus Slave
Servant
Giving our Agency as a Gift or Choosing to be Obedient=Servant
A clear fruit of following the Spirit is it only ever guides one to be a servant by choice.
All promptings to act are based on an option to choose “yes” or “no” and the consequences of acting on the prompting never lead to “enslavement” or the more modern term being an “addiction” or addictive behavior.
The thing most prized by God and thus the Holy Ghost is our “agency” or ability to always choose. It is the greatest gift we can give God (really the only gift) and His law is He can never force us to give it up. This allows us to always grow by choice and at our own pace.
In the words of the Master, “if ye love me, keep my commandments”. By and through the companionship of the Holy Ghost we can show our love in the smallest moment to moment decisions to the largest life changing choices. The big choices being infinitely easier to do by revelation from God if we have learned to seek and be obedient to the companionship of the Holy Ghost in all the little things beforehand.
We avoid deception or the snares to enslave us set by the adversary by praying always. We break free of addictions by obeying Christ’s command to “pray always” then, act on the promptings received. Slave
I have mentioned this in previous posts but I’m finding the pattern to all the adversary does is simply an inversion to what God does or is inviting us to do.
So we know the pattern here. If God wants only servants who, by choice, choose to obey His voice… then we can know the adversary only wants slaves or desires to take our agency by force. Goal of the adversary=we have no agency or ability to choose
As in the Counsel in Heaven the adversary to this day believes his plan is the right one and is still trying to make us all slaves instead of Christ’s way which is inviting us to be servants and eventually inherit all that He has.
If the prompting or thing (or person) “enslaves” us and takes away our ability to use our agency then we can know it’s not from above, but below.
The beauty of the woman and the strength of the man are the core two invitations to make or be one or the other, a servant, or a slave. To become enslaved to the natural man, or to overcome (Mosiah 3:19).
In the below painting it was fascinating for me to recognize the true servants and the true slaves.

Thanks for your comment Paula! I’m truly finding everything is a pattern of God or just the inversion pattern of the adversary! Which means if we have the spirit as our guide everything can and will be scripture.
